Tokhu Emong cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2023 begins in Wokha

Wokha: Ancestors celebrated Tokhu Emong after harvesting and storing foodgrains while thanking and praising God: Lotha Hoho Chairman

The Lotha Tokhu Emong cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2023 kicked off with the inauguration of Tokhu Stalls on Thursday at Public Ground, Wokha. It will go on till 7th November 2023.

Er Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman, Lotha Hoho, declared the Mini Hornbill Festival open at the inaugural function as the Special Guest and later inaugurated the Tokhu stalls. In his speech Er Ovung stated that in the past, the ancestors who only depended on agriculture for livelihood celebrated Tokhu Emong Festival after the end of harvesting and storing all the foodgrains in the granaries while thanking and praising God. He remarked that in order to preserve that tradition, Tokhu Emong is celebrated in the present day.

The Chairman of LH also mentioned that Lotha Tribal Council was formed in the year 1923 and that the Lotha Tribal Council and Lotha Hoho are the same except for the reason that Lotha Tribal Council is in English. Whatever the nomenclature may be, purpose remains the same – To serve the interest of the Lotha’s in particular and Nagas in general, he said.

Er Ovung urged everyone that in order to acknowledge God for all the blessing upon the Lotha’s, “Let us celebrate this jubilee together in one accord on the 6th of November and celebrate Tokhu Emong the next day together.”

Further, he reminded that the stalls will be opened to encouraged local entrepreneurs and also to establish cordial relationship amongst the Lotha Community.

Earlier, Lichumo Tsanglao, Pastor, Elumyo Baptist Church offered the dictatory prayer for the inauguration of the Tokhu stalls. Lirhonthung E. Kithan chaired the program.
