A Tourism Awareness Training on Tour Operation and Tour Guiding, organised by the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) was conducted on January 10 at Maova Village. The programme was conducted alligned with the upcoming Mimkut Mini Hornbill Tribal Festival, scheduled for January 16 to 17 at Maova Village.
Senior Tourist Officer, Dimapur, Keholeno Kennao, emphasized the role of community-based tourism and promoting sustainable tourism in Nagaland. She encouraged local youths to view tourism as a viable profession, recognise the tourism potential of their village, and actively participate in community-driven initiatives in collaboration with the department and NTA through various skill development programmes.
President, Kuki Inpi, L. Singsit, IPS (Retd.), elaborated on the cultural significance and tourism potential of the Mimkut Festival and the need to preserve indigenous traditions while promoting them responsibly. The programme was chaired by Senior Head Assistant, Department of Tourism, Khonak Konyak. The invocation was pronounced by Lunmang Lunkim, Head Deacon, Maova Christian Church. Sutminlal, Village Council Chairman, Maova Village, delivered the welcome address.

The technical sessions included Session I on “Tour Guiding Ethics and Tour Guiding as a Profession” by Veshehi Kezo, General Secretary, Nagaland Tourism Association, who discussed professional conduct, storytelling skills, visitor management, and ethical responsibilities of tour guides. Session II on “Tour Operation and Homestay” was conducted by Vimeto Vakha, President, Nagaland Tourism Association, focusing on tour packaging, homestay management, service quality, and income generation at the grassroots level.
The training programme marked a significant step towards strengthening community participation, promoting sustainable tourism, and enhancing livelihood opportunities in Maova Village and surrounding areas.
