Traffic partially restored on NH-2 near Phesama

Kohima District Administration and Police, led by Deputy Commissioner, B Henok Buchem and Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso, along with NHIDCL officials and Phesama Council representatives, visited the landslide-affected stretch of NH-2 near Phesama on August 23.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that traffic has been partially restored on the road, which was washed away during the recent monsoon.

He stated that the college bus service will resume from August 25.

In a traffic advisory, the Deputy Commissioner stated that in view of partial restoration of the affected section of the National Highway-2 (Kohima to Mao), near Phesama, between Chainage: KM 192.050 to KM 192.150, one way traffic of LMVs would be opened with immediate effect under strict regulations.

According to a traffic advisory issued by him, traffic would be suspended between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on all days to allow restoration and balance works to continue. Alternative route from Phesama-Kisama/Kigwema via Rhododendron Resort would remain open.

In the event of heavy rainfall, movement of vehicles would be suspended due to risks of landslides.

Movement of heavy vehicles, including water tankers/ para-military vehicles, etc. and all types of heavy commercial passenger vehicles would continue to remain suspended till further notice

Restriction on commercial taxi movement in Kohima town

Meanwhile, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, has issued an order restricting the movement of commercial taxis in Kohima town as part of measures to streamline and improve traffic management.

As per the order, commercial taxis shall not be allowed to enter from Lower PWD Junction and exit from Middle Midland Junction near Oking Hospital between 9 a.m. and 5 pm. on all days, with immediate effect.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the order has been issued in the public interest and appealed to the general public to extend cooperation with the authorities for its successful implementation.

No Parking zone declared from Fira Hotel to Assamese Church Kohima

Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, has issued an order declaring the stretch of road from Fira Hotel to Assamese Church under Jail Colony, Ward-19, as a ‘No Parking Zone’ with immediate effect.

The order was issued in view of rampant unauthorized parking of vehicles along the roadsides in Kohima town, which has been causing obstruction to the free movement of traffic.

The Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, Regional Transport Authority, Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, informed that any vehicles found in violation of this directive shall be towed at the expense of the vehicle owners and further penalized under Section 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
