Training for Nagaland Police officers on three new criminal laws commences at Chümoukedima

Chümoukedima: Training being held to sensitize officers and to equip them with comprehensive understanding of the new laws

The Nagaland Police under the aegis of BPR&D, MHA is organizing a five day Training of Trainers (TOT) course on the three new criminal laws – the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BSN), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyan (BSA), 2023. The training commenced on Friday and will go on till 6th March 2024 for Police officer from the rank of ASI to Addl. SP, at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chümoukedima.

As per DIPR, the objective of the training is to sensitize the officers and to equip them with a comprehensive understanding of the new laws. The New Criminal Laws shall replace the old laws i.e Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC), 1973 and The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

During the inaugural program, the Addl. DGP (Admin) Renchamo P. Kikon, IPS gave an overview on the new provisions of the three criminal laws stating that the Indian Criminal Justice System was now poised to be citizen and victim centric while at the same time empowering the police. Various path breaking facets and provisions in the new criminal laws were also touched upon during the address. The Addl. DGP (Admin) encouraged the participants to keep an open mind and diligently participate and be responsive during the course.

Earlier, the welcome note was delivered by Aboli Metha, NPS, Principal, Nagaland Police Training School, Chümoukedima and a brief introduction of the course was delivered by Rajashekara N, IPS, Dy. Director BPR&D who is also the main resource person for the training programme. The programme was attended by Khalate Vikram IPS, IGP (CID), Vilhousie Peseyie, NPS, Joint Director FSL and 81 Officers from all the District Police of the State.
