The District Commissioner’s Office & District Election Officer, Dimapur, organized the 1st Phase training for Presiding Officers and First Polling Officers in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The training took place on March 27 at Dimapur Government College, Dimapur, along with officers from Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Nuiland, informed DIPR.
Dr. Tinojongshi Chang DC & DEO, Dimapur said that by providing comprehensive training on essential topics, election officials are taking proactive measures to equip Presiding Officers and First Polling Officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage polling stations and uphold the integrity of the electoral process during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. He also showed his appreciation to the female officials for the efforts put in for the election despite having families to look after and wished all the best to the trainees.
Mhalo Humtsoe, ADC & ARO Dimapur – I, speaking during the training expressed her gratitude towards the Presiding Officers and First Polling Officers for their unwavering and invaluable contribution to the democratic process.
Humtsoe emphasized that it is the collaborative effort put forth by the officials from Dimapur, Nuiland Chumoukedima and she encouraged the trainees to seek assistance from the master trainers whenever required, stressing the importance of seeking clarification to enhance their understanding and efficiency in carrying out their responsibilities.
The District Level Master Trainers emphasized the critical roles of Presiding Officers and First Polling Officers in the election process, highlighting their responsibilities in managing polling stations, ensuring fairness, and overseeing the voting procedures on Election Day.
Key topics covered during the training session included: Setting up Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and establishing proper connections to ensure their correct functionality during the election; Conducting a Mock Poll to verify the proper functioning of the EVMs; Procedures for sealing EVMs and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines with different seals to uphold the integrity of the voting process; Understanding the sequence of events from the commencement to the conclusion of polling, including proper procedures for sealing polling materials; Training on handling EVMs during the voting process to minimize disruptions and ensure a seamless voting experience for citizens.
The District Level Master Trainers were; T. Zanthungo Nguilie, Lhipe Naro, Dr. Yelhi Vero, Nunsangtola Walling, Mordecrai Chase, N. Mongjung Phom, Ngutoli Y Swu, E. Lichumthung Kikon, Nukshisangla Lemtur, Zasekhoyi, I. Asangla Aier, Imkongnungsang, Limawapang Ao, Kekhriekho-ü, James Sema, Vedi, Haineslo, Imna, Kelevino, Bodevi, Aroko, Chubalemla, Imli, Sentitsüngla, Kedisakho, Dr. Pete and Wati.
More than female 256 and 940 male Presiding Officers and First Polling Officers participated in the training.

First round of training for polling officers concludes in Peren
The second day of the first round of training for 2nd & 3rd Polling Officers (for the forthcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024 was held at three different venues in Peren Town, namely Town Hall, PTWWO Hall and Old Catholic Church building on March 27, informed DIPR.
In the training, resource persons briefed the participants about their roles and responsibilities as per the guidelines of the ECI. Further, the trainees were taught on setting up of polling stations, the functioning and rational use of EVMs, VVPATs, filling up of Election Duty Certificate (EDC) etc.
In addition, hands-on training was also given to the trainees to get familiarise with EVMs. The training session saw the participation of more than 500 trainees.
