Introduction of the State Training of Trainers for Scale-up U-WIN was held at Hotel Vivor, Kohima on Friday. The two-day programme was organised by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland.
Nagaland Health Mission (NHM) Director Dr Ritu Thurr assured that the Government of India is committed to health and safety for all its citizens by promoting universal and equitable access to basic and essential services. She elaborated that leveraging the learnings and achievements of eVIN and CoWIN in ensuring seamless management of UIP/COVID vaccines and digital platform enabling real-time tracking and management of beneficiaries and vaccination, the health ministry has planned to build a third pillar based on the existing eVIN and CoWIN platforms for digitizing the routine immunization services in the country though U-WIN.
She said that U-WIN platform, based on the CoWIN database which served as the “digital backbone” for India’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, was launched on 11 January 2023 in 65 pilot districts across India.

The U-WIN platform will be the digital solution to facilitate tracking of every pregnant woman, new-born, child and adolescent for vaccination, Dr Thurr highlighted, adding that it will also allow planning of vaccination sessions, registration of beneficiaries, updating of vaccination status digitally on real-time basis from the last mile of service delivery by the vaccinator, recording and reporting of all data for the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).
She mentioned that U-WIN was designed as per Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) for linking Healthcare Professional Registry (HPR), Healthcare Facility Registry (HR) and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). It will be inter-operable with all existing management information systems.
For pregnant women and children, vaccine acknowledgement and immunisation card linked to ABHA ID will be generated and all states and districts will have access to a common secure database to track and vaccinate beneficiaries, the NHM Director added.

She said that Nagaland has already successfully implemented U-WIN in the two selected pilot districts of Dimapur and Peren and through which, the entire vaccination system including records is getting digitised, easing the tracking of beneficiaries.
Currently, all vaccination records under UIP are being maintained manually which with the adoption of U-WIN will do away with the hassle of keeping physical records and will enable digitisation of session planning and updating vaccination status on a real time basis, she said.
Further Dr Thurr maintained that through the platform, citizens will be able to check nearby ongoing routine immunisation sessions and book appointments. Beneficiaries would be able to plan and book slots for vaccination in advance as well as avail on spot registration and vaccination services. Once the whole immunisation programme is digitised, she said beneficiaries will get digital certificates stored in secure Digi-lockers on the spot and will also be able to download them anytime they need it.
She also mentioned that as on 13 June 2023, more than 2.63 lakh pregnant women, 6.5 lakh infant (0-1) and 2.58 lakh children (1-5 Years) have been successfully registered on the U-WIN platform during the pilot phase of 65 districts in India.
