The District Mental Health Programme (DMPH), Tuensang organised a training program for teachers on the topic of ‘Mental Health and Disorders’ on Thursday at the Conference Hall, District Hospital, Tuensang.

Resource person Dr Senilo, Psychiatrist, DH Tuensang, explained that mental health refers to a person’s emotional, psychological and social well being. He said that mental health influences how individuals think, feel and act as well as how they handle stress, related to others and make choices. Good mental health is crucial for living a balanced life, he added.

Dr Senilo mentioned that mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety and schizophrenia are conditions that affect mood, thinking and behaviour and that these disorders can be caused by a combination of genetic, biological, environmental and psychological factors.

He highlighted that early diagnosis and treatment are essential in managing these conditions and improving quality of life for those affected. Right information would lead to right understanding, dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding mental illness and breaking the stigma and discrimination in the process, the Psychiatrist stated.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Yangkhumla, clinical psychologist, invocation was pronounced by Kamchila, chaplain while the welcome address was delivered by Dr Sakoyuba Imchen, Medical Superintendent. The training session followed.
