Training program on organic farming under MOVCD-NER 2023-24 held under Kohima District

A training program on Organic Farming under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER) 2023-24 was organised recently by the Agriculture Department under SDAO Chiephobozou, Kohima District at Tuophe Phezou, Tuophema, Botsa and Chiechama Village.

Farmers of Tuophe Phezou, Tuophema and Botsa village were imparted with training on organic cultivation of coffee crops and Chiechama village on organic cultivation of Job’s tear and foxtail millet.

Mhasikhotuo Mere, SDAO, Chiephobozou chaired the formal programme held at Chiechama village on May 24 last.

In his keynote address, Mere encouraged the farmers to adopt organic farming and to grow climate resilience crops such as Job’s tear and foxtail millet which have high marketing potential even in local markets in Nagaland. Short speeches were presented on behalf of Chiechama Village Council by Pukuolie Chadi, GB and Neichulie Rüpreo, Coordinator MOVCD-NER Chiechama Village.

The special guest Alemyapang Longchar, Additional Deputy Commissioner  Chiephobozou delivered key address where he emphasised on the paramount importance of venturing into agricultural field in the state, as the state has been blessed with a fertile landscape which should be utilised to its maximum benefit.

He called upon the villagers to partake in the training sessions diligently and to make use of all the knowledge they gained in their agricultural pursuit.

Longchar also appreciated the Agriculture Department for their efforts in engaging the grass-root levels and educating them on various farming practices and also requested the department to explore all possible market linkages so that the farmers could avail the markets for selling their local produce.

The formal programme was followed by a training session for the village people where Neisakuo N Angami, AO, SDAO Chiephobozou trained the rural masses on the “Basic Concept, Scope and Constraint of Organic Farming” in Nagaland.

He also enlightened the masses on “Soil health management’’ and ‘’Sowing technique,’’ Neiketo Tsükrü, AO, SDAO Chiephobozou  trained the farmers on “Disease and Pest Management under Organic Farming’’, ‘’Preparation and used of organic spray and compost’’ and ‘’preparation of vermi compost and Berkley composting.”
