Training program on tea packaging commences in Wokha

Wokha: Dy Dir of Indian Institute of Packaging Kolkata highlights potential of Wokha for producing high-quality organic tea and coffee

A three-day training program on tea packaging was launched on Monday in Wokha for small tea growers, BLF and estate factory. The training is being organized by Shishoi Oshom-Entrepreneurship Task Force (ETF), Cell Wokha in collaboration with Tea Board India and Institute of Packaging Kolkata and will conclude on 31 January 2024.

Speaking at the inaugural program, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS expressed gratitude to the Institute of Packaging Kolkata for their second visit to Wokha and emphasizing the importance of ethical product packaging. He urged the packaging team to include training on farming techniques, recognizing their impact on product quality. Ranjan encouraged trainees to actively participate, build networks, and stressed the need for deeper and more complex training in various product fields.

Bidhan Das, Deputy Director and Branch Head, Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkata, highlighted the potential of Wokha district for producing high-quality organic tea and coffee. He emphasized the significance of good packaging for effective marketing, touching on the visual appeal and proper sealing to maintain product quality over time. Das thanked the Tea Board for funding the training.

Anuranjan Singh, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Incharge, and Project Manager at Shishoi Oshom-ETF, Cell Wokha, spoke on the importance of skill development and entrepreneurship. Dr Asitava Sur, Faculty of the Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkata Centre, delivered the vote of thanks.
