With the ongoing monsoon season and the recurring landslides and rockfalls on the Kohima-Jessami Road (Package-II) stretch of NH-29, the Deputy Commissioner Phek, Kuko Mero, has issued a travel advisory on 26th September 2023.
“To prioritize the safety of all travelers and ensure the effectiveness of maintenance work, the movement of vehicles along this specific stretch will be restricted from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM for 5 days. This restriction will be in effect from September 27, 2023, until October 2, 2023,” informed a DIPR report.
The DC has advised travelers to consider the alternative route via Zuketsa, which is especially suitable for light and medium vehicles.

The affected portion of the road spans from existing Km 30.474 to existing Km. 53.220 (Design Km. 29.600 to Km. 51.5). Despite regular maintenance and restoration work carried out by Vetex Construction Company, the relentless passage of heavy-loaded trucks has caused continuous damage, the DC informed, adding that the frequent movement of vehicles has also obstructed maintenance efforts.
