Superintendent of Police DEF, Longleng Yanger Jamir (NPS), on Wednesday remarked that trees should not be planted just for media publication during the World Environment Day held in Auching Village, Longleng.
LEMSACHENLOK in collaboration with Eco Starch and Sutsung Enterprise Private Limited celebrated World Environment Day on June 5 with Superintendent of Police DEF, Longleng Yanger Jamir (NPS), as the Special Guest at Etha Project Site, Auching Village of Longleng District under the theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”. The programme was hosted by Auching Village Council and Auching Baptist Church, informed a DIPR report.
Yanger Jamir in his speech spoke about his practical experiences of observing world environment day. He said when people hear about World Environment Day, they think about planting trees and saving trees, but he asserted that trees should not just be planted for media publication. Instead, he said, we should ensure that the trees survive and benefit us in return. He said, each of us should realize the need to keep our surrounding clean and have a sense of responsibility towards our environment. He further suggested that it would be so beneficial if various Government Departments club together (in three or four groups) to adopt a village for sustainable development.
Dr. Lanurenla, Principal, Sao Chang College, Tuensang, gave a speech on, “Towards Land Restoration, a Collaborative Effort: Mandate for the hour” and Dr. Y. Nuklu Phom, Team Leader, LEMSACHENLOK spoke on “Valuing Land towards Sustainability”. Dr. Akumtoshi, Managing Director, Satsung Enterprise Private Limited promoted the partnership for sustainability.

During the program, result for online essay and painting competition were declared and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaborative research and development was signed between IQAC, Sao Chang College, Tuensang and LEMSACHENLOK.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by S. Hongba, Auching Village Council Chairman and in solidarity with the land was pronounced by Kaiyong, Village Council Chairman, Ukha Village. Voice of the Community was shared by Longcha P, Village Council Chairman, Tangha Village. This was followed by launching and promotion of biodegradable bags and distribution of equipment to all the invited Village Councils Chairmen.
The day also witnessed a folk fusion by Alijo Cademia Yongphang Village and a play on theme depiction by Alijo Cademia Hukphang Village.
