The two-day Tribal Artisans Mela, organised by Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development of India Ltd (TRIFED) in collaboration with District Administration Tuensang, was inaugurated by Tuensang Deputy Commissioner Nokchasashi, NCS on Monday at the Town Hall, DIPR informed.

The DC, in his speech, thanked the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India for organising the event for the first time in the District. Stating that handicrafts and handlooms are mainly based at the village level in Nagaland, such events bring opportunities to the local artisan not only to showcase their works but also to open a window of opportunity to sell their products worldwide, he said.

Nokchasashi further added that TAM will help the artisans to preserve their cultural identity and also promote their products through marketing linkages.

Short speeches were also delivered by Lotus Sangtam, SHG representative and Nagendra Nath Jah, SM, TRIFED Minister of Tribal Affairs, and the vote of thanks by Asif, Senior Programme Officer, TRIFED.

Besides Tuensang, Tribal Artisans Mela was earlier organised in Wokha and Mokokchung by TRIFED under the Tribal Affair Ministry flagship programme, “Marketing and logistic development for promoting tribal products from North Eastern Region (PTRNER)”.

The mela will also be held at Phek on 18 and 19 this month. The Deputy Commissioner of Phek district had earlier requested all local artisans to attend the mela with sufficient samples of their products so that the selection committee can select the items/products and bring them within the ambit of the Supply Chain of Tribes India.
