A truck carrying construction materials rolled down the side of the road on NH-202 near the Kohima Road, approximately 8 km from Kiphire HQ. The incident reportedly took place at around 8:30 am on 13th July and was suspected to be caused by mechanical failure and also the hazardous road conditions on the mountainous terrain.
The Officer in Charge, Kiphire Police Station informed that the truck was travelling from Dimapur to Kiphire when it met with the accident. He said that while the truck’s handyman managed to jump to safety and escaped without injuries, the driver was still inside the truck when it rolled down and therefore sustained injuries. Good Samaritans rushed the injured driver to the District Hospital, Kiphire where he is receiving treatment.
The OC further informed that the truck was carrying sand, cement, and grocery items and that it had rolled down on the driver’s side of the road, approximately 450 feet below NH-202, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle.
The medical reports from the Chief Medical Officer, District Hospital, Kiphire, revealed that the driver suffered blunt injuries and trauma due to the accident.
