Tseminyu Police arrest 3 in vehicle collision incident that killed 8

Tseminyu: Police promptly initiated rescue operation along with assistance from local residents

Tseminyu Police have arrested three persons in connection with the vehicle collision case in Kandinu on Wednesday morning that took the lives of eight people.

“The impact of the collision caused the passenger Sumo to be dragged along the highway for some distance before it fell off the highway, plummeting several feet below and crushing the Sumo”, the police said giving a description of the dreadful incident in Kandinu or K. Station village in Tseminyu that took the lives of eight people on Wednesday morning.

The press release said that upon receiving information about the collision from locals around 7:55, Tseminyu Police requested DEF Wokha “to dispatch a recovery van and SRDF personnel from Wokha to respond to the situation. Immediately, a police team, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC), SDPO, and Additional SP, rushed to the scene after arranging for a JCB and an ambulance.”

On arrival at the scene, it was observed that one LP truck heading from Merapani to Kohima while carrying sand, had collided with a passenger Sumo traveling from Kohima to Mokokchung, at K. Station area. The LP truck, laden with sand, had completely crushed the passenger Sumo, trapping all the passengers inside, it stated.

The police promptly initiated rescue operation along with assistance from local residents, during which one of the passengers named Imlienla was found alive. She was painstakingly extracted from the debris and rushed to Kohima in an ambulance for urgent medical treatment, but despite all efforts, she succumbed to her injuries while en route to Kohima, the police said.

The bodies of the six other passengers and that of the driver were recovered around 11:00 am, the press release further informed.

Tseminyu Police also said that a case had been registered and three individuals including the truck driver and two other occupants of the truck had been arrested and placed in police custody for further interrogation and investigation.

It also informed that after observing all legal formalities the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members.
