The Tsieyama Nuolhou Kehou (Tsieya-ma khel under Jotsoma) celebrated its 50th years of existence on January 7, 2025 under the theme “Noupuo Kropuo” at Jotsoma village council hall under Kohima district.
The celebration started with the monolith unveiling which was blessed and dedicated by Rev Fr Dr Pezalhoukho George Rino followed by the flag hoisting conducted at the Jotsoma village council hall. Short speeches were delivered by Khunyü Rino, Seyielhuzo Medoze and Visako Rino.
Khunyü Rino, former Chairman Tsieyama Khel and former PA to DC, in his speech reflected on how their ancestors, through their wisdom, had developed friendship and camaraderie with various communities and villages, both neighbouring and afar. “Even in times of war we have befriended each other, helped, supported and have maintained cordial relations from time immemorial. Some friendships were born on the battlefield and that has continued even to this day,” stated Rino.
While some relationships are built through blood, Rino expressed that some relationships are forged during hardtimes as well as good times. “We may be a small khel but friendship and good wishes are somethings we are proud of,” added Rino.
Rino also highlighted that , Over the years our oral traditions have nourished our relations. And said that Sadly we are at a crossroad where the present generation is losing touch with our past and therefore through this celebration we want to let the cordial relations be renewed and revitalised with you all and also let our children know the friendship we have with you all.

Sharing about the 50 year celebration, Seyielhuzo Medoze, former General Secretary of Jotsoma village council, thanked all the friendly communities and villages that have come forward to be part of the celebration. “We have to revisit the roots and ways we have built our relations and help preserve it through records,” expressed Medoze.
Speaking on behalf of the younger generations, Visako Rino, Councillor Medziphema Town Council and former ASU President, stressed on the need to pass on the stories to children to continue one’s good relation with one’s allies. “We are the connecting point and today is our time to learn our stories. We also have to preserve our language. While being proud of our past, we should also preserve and pass it on to the future generations,” added Rino.
Tsieyama Nuolhou Kehou was formed in 1975. Alezo Rino, Information & publicity convenor informed that the theme “Noupuo Kropuo” was chosen with the vision to help unite among the members of its community and also bring peace and harmony to the society at large. The celebration will also be a time for the community to reflect on itself and retrospect. Tsieyama Students’ Union and Tsieyama Youth Organisation also presented special songs during the event.
