Tuensang clinches 23rd Inter-District Football Championship Dr T Ao Trophy 2024

In a gripping final match held on Friday, September 27, at the Loyem Memorial Astro-turf ground in Tuensang district, the Tuensang team claimed the

23rd Inter-District Football Championship Dr T Ao Trophy 2024 with 2-1 score against Peren.

The best defender title was awarded to Liang T from Noklak District,  best midfielder to Awung of Peren district, Golden globe to Chiu from Noklak, Golden boot to Kenumdi Siarau from Peren and the most valuable player  was awarded to Ayenmongba of Home team Tuensang.

The closing ceremony was graced by P.Bashang Chang, Minister of PWD, Housing and  Mechanical engineering as the Special Guest. In his address, Chang expressed gratitude to everyone for making the prestigious tournament a success. He especially acknowledged the organisers Nagaland football Association and host Tuensang district football Association for a spectacular display of patience and sportsmanship.  “Dr.T Ao trophy holds a special place in the hearts of every football in Nagaland,” said Chang.

He mentioned about Dr.T.Ao, a legendary figure who was not just the first captain of the Indian National football team but a figure of perseverance, leadership and humility. “His story from the hills of Nagaland to the global stage serve as an inspiration to every young athletes,” said Chang adding that the tournament which was named in his honour serves as a platform, empowering units and uplifting communities.

“With such facilities supported by the Chief Minister, we are laying the foundation of a brighter future for young athletes giving them the platform they need to excel both on and off the field to all players who have participated in this tournament that the Government of Nagaland is with you all in every possible ways and committed to creating opportunities for players to excel and represent our state at the national and international level.

He encouraged all the participants to continue striving for excellence, and to dream even higher.  The road ahead may be challenging but with determination and hard work one can achieve, said the Minister congratulating all the 26 districts team representing the respective district for their dedication and commitment.

Benei M Lamthiu, MLA and General Secretary NFA, highlighted on the progress of sports in the district as well as the State and expressed gratitude for the successful event held in Tuensang. The gradual evolution of sports especially football from a hobby to a career today was emphasized by the MLA.
