On the occasion of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a significant program was held at CKS Hall, Tuensang District. The event was organized by the Tuensang District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Tuensang, and Sakhi-One Stop Centre Tuensang in collaboration with Changsao Thangjam Setshang Tuensang.
Addressing the audience, Sentilong Ozukum, SDO (C) Tuensang, highlighted the crucial role women play in Naga society and stressed the importance of recognizing and supporting their contributions to families and society. He shed light on various government schemes aimed at empowering women, such as PMMVY (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana) that provides maternity benefits, and skill development training for school dropout girls and boys.
Chulongla Chang, Administrator of Sakhi-One Stop Centre Tuensang, drew attention to the vulnerability of young people, especially women and children, to trafficking outside the state. He pointed out that due to poor economic conditions and lack of employment opportunities, many become susceptible to trafficking, leading to inhumane living conditions, physical abuse, and coerced involvement in the sex trade.
