The SDPO stated that Tuensang Police promptly activated a technical team, and a rescue operation was launched under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, IPS and himself at around 2:00 am on 18 June 2023.

The police said, a team of five led by UBSI, I Yimkong Toshi Chang conducted the covert rescue operation which took them around 16 continuous hours to reach the designated location of the victim held hostage, which was in Barpeta district of Assam.

The girl was kept in a confined room, throughout the abduction period, where she was tortured and abused for the past six months, it was disclosed.

After the extraction, the 26-year-old accused was handed over to Assam Police and later to the concerned judicial officials of that area while the victim was brought back to Tuensang, it was informed.

SDPO Bhartiya asserted that it was a clear case of abduction as the accused did not reveal his true identity to the girl and the family and that a case under 27/2023 and IPC section 366 and 365 had been registered at Tuensang PS.

The police further stated that the case should set an example for all to be cautious not to fall “prey to false promises” and to be vigilant while dealing with unknown individuals.

The SDPO also urged the public to promptly approach the police in such matters. He also reminded the Tuensang public to call the 24/7 police helpline number 6009308128 in times of need.
