Five wards in Tuensang town have issued a 30-day ultimatum to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), demanding immediate repair and drainage work on the Tuensang-Tobu road, warning of an indefinite bandh if their demands are not met.

In a memorandum submitted to the Officer Commanding of 100 RCC BRO through the Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, the ward chairmen alleged that the BRO has neglected the road stretch from Zero Point (High School B Ward) to Laiket Lembou Colony (St. John A Ward) since

2018.

The poor condition of the road, they said, has left commuters and vehicles vulnerable.

“All Ward Union Tuensang Town had earlier submitted representations for the same road through the Deputy Commissioner, but the department of BRO remains deaf to the hue and cry of the public,” the letter stated.

The ultimatum, signed by the chairmen of Polounyu, St. John A, High School B, St. John B, and Hakushang wards, said the BRO must act within 30 days from the date of submission to repair the deteriorated roads and drainages.

“If not repaired within the stipulated period, the five wards will impose an indefinite total bandh within Tuensang town area, and if any untoward incidents happen, the undersigned shall not be held responsible,” the signatories warned.

The memorandum was accompanied by photographs of damaged roads and copied to the BRO headquarters, the All Ward Union Tuensang Town, the Tuensang Village Citizen Union, and the Village Council of Chongpho Khel, Tuensang Village.
