Twelve dead as bus collides with coal laden truck in Assam’s Golaghat; PM announces ex-gratia

Golaghat: President Murmu expresses sadness over road accident

As many as twelve people have died when the bus they were travelling on collided head on with a coal laden truck in Golaghat district of Assam. The collision took place around 5:00 am on Wednesday as the bus, carrying 45 passengers, was on its way to a temple. 25 passengers are said to be injured and undergoing treatment at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too expressed that he was pained by the loss of life due to the road mishap and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. PM Modi also announced assistance of Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his deep anguish over the bus accident and offered his condolences to the families of the deceased. He also said that the local administration is providing all necessary support to the injured in this difficult hour.

President Droupadi Murmu said, “The news of sudden death of many people in a road accident in Golaghat, Assam is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
