Two persons namely Tahsei Konyak, 19 and Khamlong , 20 were convicted of stealing a sum of Rs 2 lakhs from Shaenghah Wamsi Baptist Church under Mon District.
The incident occurred on the midnight of 1 July 2022 and both convicts were apprehended on 3 July by the village guards after the money was found to be missing by the church pastor early in the morning.
The stolen money was traced and found in the possession of the accused shortly. The penalty for the theft is two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000.
According to the Court of the Judicial Magistrate, it has been observed that cases of theft and house breaking have been on the rise in the district which the court claims is due to drug addiction among other reasons.
Unfortunately, the church has become an easy target for thieves looking for instant money. This is the third known incident in which a church has been burglarized.
