The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has filed a complaint with the State Election Commissioner, Nagaland against Tovihoto Ayemi, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Advisor for Departments of Tribal Affairs and Election for violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) to the upcoming ULB Election and other Electoral Provisions.

In the Complaint, the NPCC has accused Ayemi of promising to offer a Nominated seat to the Dimapur Municipal Council to Kanili Kinilimi, who was the Congress candidate for Ward 7, Dimapur. It alleged that Kinilimi has confessed of being “lured into withdrawing her candidature from the upcoming ULB” and stated that the action of Advisor Ayemi “not only undermines the dignity and integrity of the electoral institution but also blatantly violates a number of penal and electoral laws”.

The NPCC also said that it is “extremely appalled at such sneaky and cheap tricks used by a third time Elected Member to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from a Nationally Recognised Party knowing fully well that such acts is unconstitutional and would attract the rigour of law, in letter and in spirit.”

Further, the Congress claimed that the MLA’s action adversely interferes with the spirit of free and fair election and also destroys the integrity and image of your esteemed electoral institution and called for intervention from the State Election Commission.

The NPCC urged the Commission to investigate the matter at the earliest and question the BJP MLA as per the procedure established by law and take necessary action, so that the integrity and sanctity of the electoral process of one of the largest democratic nations be restored.
