One day ULLAS (Understanding of Lifetime Learning for All in Society) training program for Volunteer Teachers (Dept of School Education) was conducted at Community Hall, Bible Hill Ward, Phek Town on 8th April 2025.
District Education Officer, Phek, Vechisayi delivered the keynote address of the program, and said that the purpose and vision of ULLAS program under Ministry of Education, Government of India which targets to make illiterate person to Literate and make India a hundred percent Literate Nation.
He also informed that government school teachers were given additional service as Volunteers Teachers due to non-availability of other agencies. DEO also informed that as per the latest door to door survey conducted in Phek district by the respective Volunteer Teachers, a little more than 4000 (four thousand) illiterate persons/citizens were identified inclusive of newly upgraded Meluri district. The duties and responsibilities of Volunteer Teacher are to teach people who have never been to formal education, stated the DEO.
Three (TOT) Trainers of Teachers were the resource persons at the program.

TOT, EBRC Meluri, Thomas spoke on the topic ‘Foundational Literacy’ and said that ULLAS is the New India Literacy Programme. He then highlighted the key takeaways about ULLAS Schemes, which are – Vision-Jan Jan Saakshar (Literacy for all), Volunteerism/Kartavya Bodh, targets 15 years & above illiterates, Samajik Chendra Ketnas, implementation in Hybrid Mode, and Assessment twice a year through FLNAT on passing the FLNAT-New Literates. Thomas also shared strategies of reading, writing and types of writing formal & informal.
Topic on ‘Foundational Numeracy and Learning Outcome’ and ‘Pedagogical Processes’ were proposed by TOT, Kevikho, EBRC Phek and TOT Kutsholo Tsuhah, EBRC Pfutsero respectively.
Deputy Director, Ruyosuyi Khesoh from Directorate of School Education also delivered a short speech, while Kunusayi, TOT Chozuba chaired the program.
More than 145 School Teachers attended the training programme.
