President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland, Benjamin Yepthomi on Monday said that the Union Budget 2026-27 has once again underscored that meticulous economic planning and inclusive growth remain the cornerstone of achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Describing the Budget as futuristic and people-centric, Yepthomi lauded Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting what he termed “one of the most comprehensive and inclusive budgets to date”, effectively addressing domestic production and consumption, strengthening foreign direct investment inflows, and navigating global and geo-political uncertainties with clarity and confidence.

Recalling the policy shift since the formation of the NDA government in 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yepthomi said India’s outlook has decisively transformed from “Look East” to “Act East.” He stated that this transition has translated into action-oriented initiatives focused on economic integration, improved connectivity, enhanced cultural ties and stronger people-to-people engagement, thereby deepening cooperation across socio-economic and security dimensions, particularly in the North Eastern region.

The BJP leader said the Union Budget 2026–27 reinforces the belief that India cannot truly develop unless the Northeast develops. Highlighting the government’s continued commitment, he pointed out that the budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has been increased from ₹5,915 crore in 2025–26 to ₹6,812.30 crore in 2026–27.

According to him, this enhanced allocation will accelerate infrastructural development, improve regional connectivity, generate livelihoods and ensure holistic growth across all North Eastern states.

Yepthomi further noted that the Budget places special emphasis on strengthening rail, road, air and digital connectivity to ensure last-mile access, while also focusing on border and remote area infrastructure. He said key thrust areas include promotion of tourism and eco-tourism, support for agri-based and handloom industries, and encouragement of youth entrepreneurship through Start-Up India, MSMEs and skill development programmes. Increased investments in healthcare, education, renewable energy and urban development, he added, would significantly enhance the quality of life of people in the region.

Referring specifically to Nagaland, the BJP Nagaland president said the state stands to benefit substantially from these forward-looking initiatives through enhanced infrastructure projects, expanded connectivity, tourism promotion and employment generation. He added that continued support through centrally sponsored schemes, along with vital central grants and tax devolution, will remain crucial for addressing resource constraints and sustaining the state’s development momentum.

The BJP State President emphasized that this transformative budget presents immense opportunities for the North Eastern States and called upon all citizens to actively participate and make optimal use of these initiatives to contribute towards building a stronger, self-reliant, and developed India.
