The Union Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development, Government of India, Faggan Singh Kulaste, embarked on a two-day visit to Mokokchung district of Nagaland on February 14, informed the DIPR. Accompanied by Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, the minister aimed to engage with the people of Nagaland and assess the progress of centrally sponsored schemes and development projects.
During his visit, the Minister explored Mopongchuket village, immersing himself in the rich traditional culture and art of the local tribes. He lauded the efforts of the village council Chairman, Arenba, in preserving tradition through sculptures, museums, and showcases.
A review meeting of all centrally sponsored schemes was conducted at the DC conference hall, with Minister Metsubo Jamir and Deputy Commissioner Thsuvisie Phoji in attendance. District officials presented the progress of schemes, earning the Minister’s satisfaction. He directed the DC to prioritize the saturation of schemes like PMAY-G, Jal Jivan Mission, and Aadhaar seeding of beneficiaries.

At the Rural Assembly hall, the Minister interacted with Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Ungma Village, emphasizing the significant increase in SHG memberships nationwide. He highlighted the government’s commitment to empower women, announcing plans to increase the number of “lakhpadi Didi’s” from 2 crores to 3 crores. Concerned about the marketing of SHG products, he instructed the DC to collaborate with tribal ministers and agencies to provide proper marketing platforms.
Engaging with Tsuktizungla, President of Ongpangkong North Block Level Federation, the Minister applauded the presence of 116 “lakhpadi Didi’s” in her village, encouraging the creation of more empowered women.
The Minister also visited an exhibition featuring SHG products, promising to liaise with central government officials to facilitate product marketing. Following the visit, he returned to Kohima.
