Ura Academy president urges scholars to be Tenyidie language promotors

Kohima: 53rd Ura Academy Seminar concludes with students competing in debate, poetry writing, story writing and essay writing in Tenyidie

President of Ura Academy, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, on Friday, called upon the scholars to be agents to promote Tenyidie language. He said this in his presidential address during the valedictory session of the 53rd Ura Academy Seminar held at Ura Academy Hall in Kohima.

Liezietsu said that language is one of the greatest semblances of culture and pointed out the need to preserve and develop the same. He also mentioned that he had been with Ura Academy for more than 50 years and stated, “we have come to a stage where we need to develop and give more importance to it”.

Tenyidie is one the most developed Naga Languages as it has been introduced at the University level and had celebrate 25 years last year, the president said. He also laid emphasis on role of church leaders in usage of language and urged upon them to use Tenyidie language which would act as catalyst for promotion of the language.

Earlier, on the concluding day of the three-day seminar, the Tenyidie Kephrünuoko Krotho (TKK) conference was held in the first session with Vipinuo Kehie, Head of Department, Department Of Tenyidie, Dimapur Government College as the guest speaker. Kehie encouraged the students present to take up Tenyidie as a subject. Meanwhile, she exhorted the students gatherings on moral life, obedience, respect and honour to parents and elders.

The program was chaired by Petevilie Ketho, President Tenyidie Kephrünuoko Krotho, scripture reading, and invocation prayer was pronounced by Thinuohelie Sachü, Pastor BRC Kohima Village, welcome address by Khrieketoulie Chadi, Vice president, TKK, and a special number was presented by Seyiekruonuo Yhome.

The second session witnessed students from high schools and higher secondary schools compete in debate, poetry writing, story writing and essay writing in Tenyidie.

Choral competition was held the third session with guest speaker Hovithal Sothu, Project Director, TafMa. He spoke on the importance and benefits of music.

The Exhortation in the Valdictory session was given by Pheluopfhelie Kesiezie, Ura Academy treasurer, while invocation was pronounced by Rev. Savito Nagi, President ABCC. A folk tune was presented by Thüküvelü Sakhamo and friends and special presentation by Hill brothers, Tenyidie Department, Nagaland University and Northfield School (Winner of the choral competition). Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr D Kuolie, secretary general, Ura Academy.

Awards were conferred on the following categories:

  1. Dr Neilhouzhü Kire Award for highest marks in Tenyidie subject in HSLC exam presented to Lhukhonino Seyie, Christian Welfare School, Khonoma
  2. Rüzhükhrie Sekhose Award for highest marks in Tenyidie in HSSLC exam presented to Nourhengunuo Kire, Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School.
  3. Nini Vinguriaü Lungalung Award will be presented to highest marks scorer in Music subject in HSSLC exam to Yimlimongla Pongen, Vineyard School
  4. A Kevichüsa Award for undergraduate 2022, Nagaland University Tenyidie Subject topper to Khrüvolü Chüzho, Kohima College.

Results of the TKK Literary and Arts competition:

Debate: 1st- Neipedezo & Vihezonuo (Mezhür HSS); 2nd-Kikruleü (Rüzhükhrie GHSS); 3rd-Keneisazo (Baptist HSS)

Essay writing: 1st- Lolehol Tase (Mezhür HSS); 2nd- Menuosieü (Thinuovicha Memorial GHSS); 3rd-Homniu Khiam (GHSS Jotsoma) and Samlamlungle Thou (Greenwood HSS)

Story writing: 1st- Ngutovinuo (Rüzhükhrie GHSS); 2nd- Chokholü Rhakho (Chandmari HSS); 3rd- Keneivino Chücha (GHSS Jotsoma)

Poetry writing: 1st- Keneivilie Suohumvü (Mezhür HSS); 2nd- Seyievi Ratsa (Stella HSS); 3rd-Sedevinuo Kire (Grace HSS)

Choral competition: 1st- Northfield School; 2nd-Mezhür HSS: 3rd- Baptist HSS

The Organising Committee of the seminar was led by Daso Paphino, Vice president, Ura Academy and Seminar co-ordinator, Kereivilie Kire, secretary, Ura Academy.
