Nagaland Police informed today that it has been conducting a special drive since 1 February 2023 under the Motor Vehicle Act in an effort to inculcate traffic discipline, reduce accidents and control various road offences.
The press release issued by Superintendent of Police (SCRB) PHQ has notified on categories of vehicles plying in the state of Nagaland for which advisory is given: vehicles without proper or no registration number, vehicles with Applied For Registration, government vehicles purchased in auction while the registration numbers remain unchanged and government vehicles being used by retired government officers.
According to the press release, ‘As per the provisions of MV Act, the vehicles are to be registered in the name of the new owner within a stipulated time.’ Hence, the general public is notified that vehicles plying on the road without proper or no registration number and those with AF as mentioned will be subject to immediate confiscation and legal action.
Further, in view of checking government vehicles against misuse and involvement in illegal activities during the upcoming Assembly Elections, owners of vehicles purchased in auctions who have not registered the vehicles in their names are directed to contact the nearest SP Office for Applied For Registration and give an undertaking to abide by the Model Code of Conduct.
Retired Officers using government vehicles are notified to either return the vehicles to the concerned departments or not use the same till the completion of the election process, the release further stated.
