A new branch of Vishal Mega Mart was officially inaugurated today at Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung. The grand opening ceremony was marked by a House Dedication Service followed by the ribbon cutting and launch of the mart. The ribbon-cutting of the Vishal Mega Mart was carried out by Atsungba Walling, ADC & CEO, MMC Mokokchung opening the business operations at the newly launched outlet.
Proprietor, Kilangzulu, speaking at the launch, said this marks their first venture, with plans for future expansion already in place. He noted that Mokokchung town is quite confined in terms of commercial space, making such ventures challenging. Drawing from his experience as a businessman, he emphasized the importance of upholding truth, stating, “If there is truth in whatever you do, blessings will follow.”
He added that Vishal Mega Mart has been opened not only as a business but also to create job opportunities, especially for the educated unemployed. He highlighted that part-time employment is also available, and expressed hope that this venture would inspire the youth to pursue business and entrepreneurship in the future. He said, “It took 1 year, 9 months, and 28 days to reach completion of the mall.”
Kilangzulu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the guests and attendees, stating that their presence and blessings were deeply cherished.
Speaking on the demographic profile and business prospects of the region, Atsung Walling remarked that the arrival of Vishal Mega Mart represents a major investment. While acknowledging concerns about whether the venture can be as successful as in Kohima or Dimapur, given Mokokchung’s comparatively smaller consumer base, he nonetheless congratulated the proprietor and his family for taking this significant step.
On a positive note, Walling observed that Mokokchung’s economy is largely driven by middle-class families, with no presence of millionaires or billionaires. In this context, Vishal Mega Mart, being a reasonably priced retail chain, aligns well with the spending patterns and needs of the local population.
He further added that in today’s fast-paced world, where people are deeply engaged in their respective occupations, a convenient store like Vishal is essential. Rather than rushing from one shop to another, residents will now have a one-stop solution for their daily needs.

Calling it a timely and commendable initiative, Walling expressed hope that the venture will thrive, not just for Mokokchung district, but also for neighboring areas such as Longleng, Tuensang, Zunheboto, and surrounding villages.
Vishal Mega Mart Manager, Bishnu Saikia, informed that the retail chain is already operating successfully in Dimapur, Kohima, Mon, and Wokha, and has now expanded to Mokokchung after fulfilling all necessary criteria. He stated that the primary target customers are from the lower-middle-class segment, and the brand's core purpose is to meet customer aspirations by offering a comfortable and affordable shopping experience.
He further shared that based on the positive response and high customer turnout at the existing outlets across the state, the company plans to gradually expand to all districts. Saikia expressed satisfaction with the customer response so far, noting that the turnout has been very encouraging.
Watimeren Longchar, who played a vital role in connecting Vishal Mega Mart with Mokokchung, described the commercial expansion as a significant achievement that meets the company’s criteria based on population ratio. He noted that the establishment of Vishal Mega Mart in Mokokchung will not only benefit the town but also serve neighboring districts such as Longleng, Tuensang, Zunheboto, and parts of Upper Assam — regions where such retail opportunities are often lacking.
Highlighting the importance of local growth, Longchar emphasized that entrepreneurial development within the community is essential. He remarked that the presence of a national company like Vishal can be influential, as it opens avenues for cultural exchange — allowing others to learn about the local way of life and, in turn, share that understanding across other Indian states, thereby bridging cultural gaps.
Longchar encouraged citizens to uphold the company’s discipline and protocol, and urged both locals and visitors to support this venture and contribute towards uplifting this development to greater heights.
At present, around 30 individuals are employed at the Mokokchung outlet.
