Viswema Village held a joint celebration on 14th November 2024 to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the Viswema Village Council’s (VVC) and the 50th year of the Viswema Women Organisation’s (VWO).
Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Advisor for Prisons, Printing & Stationery, Er. Kropol Vitsu, and MLA & Chairman DPDB Kohima, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso graced the event which was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Tewetso-ozwü, Sweba.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Minister Kruse expressed gratitude to God for the village’s blessings and praised the visionary efforts of community pioneers. She noted that Viswema, the largest village in the Southern Angami region, has a legacy of producing some of the finest leaders in politics, public service, NGOs, as well as prominent entrepreneurs and sportspersons. To this end, Kruse encouraged the younger generation to embrace the values of the village elders and carry forward their legacy to build a resilient community.
While acknowledging the women for their contributions to their family, society, village, and beyond, the Minister cited some instances of the women SHGs in the village who are doing exceptionally well to uplift their community.
Ideally located where the National Highway runs through the village and blessed with good water sources and fertile soil, the Minister encouraged the people to take up farming vigorously and harness its benefits.
Commending the village for the joint celebration, Kruse emphasised the bond of peace and unity as the key elements to take any community forward adding that the state government is also working tirelessly with the different sections of the society for peace and unity.
‘Good things can happen only where there is peace and unity’ said Kruse and urged the denizens of Viswema village to continue exemplifying these values as a model for other communities.
Advisor Er. Kropol Vitsu acknowledged the invaluable contributions of women to the society and said that an empowered and god-fearing woman’s influence extends beyond the home. To this end, he urged the womenfolk to instil spiritual values in their children so that the society can foster individuals of character, compassion and integrity.
MLA & Chairman DPDB Kohima, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso acknowledged the progress of women in different roles and positions in various aspects. He viewed that in a few years’ time, the state can expect to see more women assuming positions of authority as Deputy Commissioners, SPs etc.
The MLA urged the Viswema people to embrace their in-laws (from other villages and communities) as cherished members of their family and continue to spread, love, positivity and kindness wherever they are placed.
VVC Chairman, Tebül Neikha said it is truly inspiring to witness the remarkable progress women are making in education, employment, leadership roles. He also reminded on the importance of men and women working together to create a harmonious and prosperous society where everyone thrives.
Earlier Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse unfurled the Viswema Women Organisation (VWO) flag and unveiled the jubilee plaque which was then blessed by Rev. Dr. Fr. Godfrey Vilasal Thapo.
