War on Drugs: Zunheboto Police seize drugs, arrests drug traffickers including pharmacist

Zunheboto Police, as part of its continued operation ‘War on Drugs’, arrested three drug traffickers in Aghunato town on 23 March, leading to the arrest of a pharmacist in Dimapur, identified as the source of the drugs on 27 March.

A press release from the police informed that on 23 March, based on an intelligence input, the police raided a house at Inavi Colony, Aghunato town and seized 730 suspected Spasmo Proxyvon capsules, 17 bottles of Cough Syrup and arrested Atoka Achumi, Atoba Kiho and Nito Achumi.

The police registered three separate cases as none of the arrested persons had any licence/permit to sell the restricted medicines or any medical prescription for its usage.

During investigation, it was revealed that the drugs were sourced from Mahadev Pharma in Dimapur. Based on a non-bailable arrest and search warrant, Zunheboto Police carried out an operation at the pharmacy in Dimapur and arrested Manoj Barman, the alleged accused on 27 March.

The pharmacy and godown were sealed to preserve the evidence and further investigation is on, it informed.

Further, in connection with a case at Akuluto Police Station, SOT Zunheboto seized suspected 11.63 grams of suspected Brown Sugar from the possession of Viloto Muru from Satakha town and arrested him on 23 March.

Nagaland Police has advised the public not to sell, purchase, transport or use restricted/prescription drugs without advice from medical practitioners.

The police further warned and advised pharmacists and chemists that prescription drugs should not be sold without medical advice as it may result in not only criminal action but also cancellation of the licences.
