Ward authorities within Kohima municipality directed to comply with CCPD court order

Kohima: Administrator emphasizes sharing of all public notices, public information on display screens within residential buildings and complexes

T. Lanusenla Longkumer, the Administrator of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), has issued a directive to all Ward Chairmen within the Kohima Municipality regarding compliance with a court order from the Hon’ble Court of Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MosJE), Government of India, DIPR informed.

In the Order dated May 22, 2023, pertaining to Case No. 13506/1102/2022/158497, the court recommended that the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs adhere to the provisions outlined in sections 3, 5, 40, 42, and 46 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and Rule 15 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules 2017. These provisions stipulate the necessity of ensuring the sharing of all public notices and other public information on display screens within residential buildings and complexes.

In light of this court order, the Administrator of KMC has directed all Kohima Ward authorities to take immediate action and implement measures to comply with the court’s instructions. This includes the installation of devices that can display various community-related notices, circulars, and other information or media content relevant to residents. Additionally, these devices should provide audio facilities to enable individuals with visual impairments to access the displayed information.

The KMC Administrator has emphasized that this compliance is a priority and should cover all categories of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
