The sixth season of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League got underway at the Astro Football Turf, Ungma, with Wasang FC securing a 6-0 win over Nova SC.
The league’s opening ceremony was held earlier in the day with Dr. L. Imlinichet Imchen chairing the programme. Temsutoshi Lkr delivered the invocation, while Aongsen Aier, Convenor of the Mokokchung Football League, gave the welcome address. A special presentation was performed by Tiasola followed by keynote speech from Imkongsanen, Councillor of Mokokchung Municipal Council.
Addressing the gathering at the opening of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League (MFL) Season 6, Councillor Imkongsanen lauded the initiative, emphasizing that the league’s 100-plus members represent individuals committed in uplifting Mokokchung to the level of other leading districts.
He remarked that every individual is like an open book—constantly being observed and read by others—and therefore must strive to lead an exemplary life, both on and off the field.
Highlighting the significance of the age group, he described 35 as a crucial phase in a man’s life—a bridge that connects the youth and the elderly. Imkongsanen further praised the MFL for promoting values of friendship, fitness, and fellowship through the beautiful game.

The opening matchday of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League Season 6 witnessed three exciting fixtures played at the Astro Football Turf, Ungma.
In the first match, Wasang FC delivered a dominant performance, thrashing Nova SC 6-0. Takosunep was the standout performer, scoring two quick goals in the 9th and 17th minutes. Chuba Imchen added to the tally in the 13th minute, followed by a goal from Chubayanger in the 29th minute. Jamonger and Nukshi sealed the emphatic victory with goals in the 56th and 60th minutes respectively. With this victory, Wasang FC sits comfortably at the top of the table with a goal difference of +6.
The second fixture saw a tight contest between Trebuchet FC and Terokroker FC. After a goalless first half, Trebuchet FC found the breakthrough in the 59th minute through Repamayang’s strike, securing a 1-0 win and three crucial points.
In the final game of the day, New Ecclesia FC edged past Revenant FC 2-1 in a closely fought match. Nukshi opened the scoring early in the 2nd minute, but Revenant FC’s Rongsenchiba equalized in the 20th minute. However, New Ecclesia FC regained the lead in the 50th minute through Moatemsu, and held on to claim all three points.
All six teams have now completed one match each, with Wasang FC, New Ecclesia FC, and Trebuchet FC earning victories to start their campaign on a positive note.
One of the added features of the 35+ MFL Season 6 is the introduction of the “Player of the Match” award. On the opening match day, three players were named as Players of the Week: Jamonger of Wasang FC, Moakaba Imchen of Trebuchet FC, and Nükshi Kichu of New Ecclesia.
The league will run for approximately 25 game weeks, featuring a total of 75 matches throughout the season. The Player of the Match award is generously sponsored by Sentiyanger of Unique Bakery.
