In a step to turn ‘Waste to Wealth’, the Tuensang Town Council under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 set up set up an Reduce, reuse, recycle or RRR centre on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5 June 2023. In this one stop RRR centre, citizens can contribute clothes, shoes, old books, toys and used plastic to be reused or recycled.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, NCS who is also the officer in charge of Tuensang Town Council stated that the objective behind this project is to reduce the scale of waste in the Town as well as to lend a helping hand to the needy by distributing the collected clothing as well as reusable items. He also asserted the council is “trying to eliminate or at least reduce the use of plastic” as they have started a campaign last year to collect and buy plastic waste with support from the general public. Tungoe informed that around 1000 kilograms of plastic wastes have been collected and sent for recycling since the initiation of this project.

The ADC further informed that the RRR mission will extend to various sectors across the Town and to collect the reusable items as well as recyclable materials even in the future for better management of waste.
