WASU backs KSU on review of job reservation policy

The Wakching Area Student’s Union (WASU) has expressed support for the demand of the Konyak Student Union’s (KSU) for a review and reform of the existing state job reservation policy based on population ratio.

In a release on Friday, WASU stated that KSU has highlighted the glaring disparities in employment opportunities, literacy rates, and socio-economic indicators faced by the Konyak community in Mon district. While backing the KSU, the student body appealed to the state government to undertake an immediate review and restructuring of the existing job reservation policy and consider introducing a population-based reservation system through a special cabinet decision, without waiting for the release of the 2021 census.

“The Konyak tribe, being one of the largest tribal populations in Nagaland, continues to face systemic marginalization. The current job reservation framework has led to frustration and disillusionment among educated Konyak youth due to the lack of parity in employment opportunities. The KSU’s demand is not merely a call for policy reform; it is a desperate cry for justice, equity, and recognition of their rightful share,” WASU maintained.

Expressing hope that the state government will understand the need of the Konyak community and take necessary steps to address their grievances, WASU further asserted that this change is crucial for achieving equitable justice and ensuring a fair representation of the Konyak community in government jobs.
