Mokokchung district, along with the rest of the world, celebrated International Women’s Day 2023 on the theme ” DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equity”, organised by Watsü Mungdang, the apex Ao Women Organisation at Aoer Kilem, Sangtemla Ward on 8 March.
Sheetal Gurung, representative of Women on Health, while speaking during the programme on the theme “Embrace Equity”, shared her experience and stated that women supporting each other is very important. “Each woman represent the possibilities of change,” she added.
Gurung urged every woman present to take positions on ‘extraordinary and not ordinary’.
Speaking in line with the theme, she said that equity means fair opportunities given to all and that all people face different challenges in life. She further emphasised on financial education and lamented the lack of financial knowledge among women.

Marketing is challenging in Mokokchung unlike Kohima and Dimapur, she said, and called upon the women present to come together and create a market around themselves, adapting to the given situation.
“Intention is one thing but action is a whole reference story”, said Gurung.
To unleash the potentialities of the women in the state, Gurung urged them to take action for the opportunities around them and make it a success story.
S Arenla Longkumer, President of Watsu Mungdang, in her welcome address, urged the women gathered to advance forward inclusively. Stating that the programme is organised for the upliftment of young women entrepreneurs, she opined that it is very important to know the position of women in this advanced technological world.

The programme also witnessed experience sharing from three local entrepreneurs. Katinaro, a veterinarian by profession and owner of Anthophile Flores; Chubalemla, owner of Berem Jewellery from Khensa village and Sentirenla Ozukum, Ph.d scholar from Nagaland University and owner of Sen Bakes, also shared their experience.
The day also witnessed an exhibition-cum-sale and attended by Watsü Mungdang and its affiliated committees and units, Lotha, Sumi, Gorkha, Teniymi Women Organisation of Mokokchung, and women from different walks of life.
