Taking serious note of what it termed a “pre-imminent threat” to the demographic, socio-economic, and political future of the Naga people, the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) has announced the formation of an Immigration Control Task Force to regulate and address issues related to illegal immigrants in Naga-inhabited areas.

In a press statement, the Media Cell of the Working Committee stated that while it remains committed to religious tolerance and secular coexistence among diverse communities in Naga areas, such liberal values should not be misused to promote religious fundamentalism. As part of its measures, the committee declared that no Madrasas will be allowed to operate within Naga territories and any existing ones will be disbanded.

The statement also emphasized that Masjids must not be misused to propagate any form of jihadist ideology in any manner.

To that end, the NNPGs have called on Muslim councils in Naga-inhabited areas to coordinate closely with the newly formed Task Force. It said the WC is disposed towards adopting long term policy oriented strategic measures rather than short term emotional response.

In this regard, it said the Task Force would take intensive identification and registration of migrants, particularly focusing on illegal immigrants.

The WC appealed to all concerned community leaders, especially sectors and village authorities at the grassroots level to extend cooperation to the Task Force.

“The orientation of the W/C must in no manner be misjudged as anti-Muslim agenda or against any particular religious or social groups,” the statement said.
