The Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) organised a walkathon to spread awareness about legal services, the eradication of drug abuse and addiction, child abuse, and gender-based violence. The event was part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and the Nari Chetna 3.0 (Gender Campaign) which started on November 25.
The walkathon began at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Wokha and concluded at the District Court. A brief flagging-off ceremony was held at the DC complex before the event.
The District and Sessions Jud’e and Chairperson of WDLSA, Nino Iralu, emphasized the significance of the walkathon, noting that despite its short distance, it carries a powerful message for society. Iralu urged everyone to pledge their support in assisting addicts and actively participate in drug eradication efforts and in fighting against child abuser and gender based violence.
Addressing the gathering, Iralu encouraged determination and dedication in helping those struggling with addiction. She stressed that addicts require not only rehabilitation and detox programs but also constant love, care, and motivation to recover.

She called on civil society organizations (CSOs) to establish rehabilitation centers and urged citizens to commit to providing counseling and support to addicts. Highlighting the importance of collective action, Iralu reaffirmed the need for community efforts in tackling the pressing issue of drug abuse.
Mission Shakti DPO/DNO, N. Ekonthung Kikon, highlighted on the various societal issues, including the marriage of underage children, which is linked to health risks such as cancer, as well as the growing instances of divorces and financial burdens like debts that often drive individuals toward substance abuse. He called for greater awareness and collective action to address these challenges, urging citizens to support one another in tackling social evils.
