Following the passing of the Nagaland Municipal Bill 2023, the two Naga female legislators took to X (formerly Twitter) to laud the passing of the Bill which also includes the 33 percent women reservation in the Urban Local Bodies.
“Today is a momentous day for our people in Nagaland. This remarkable achievement is a significant leap towards attaining gender equality and empowerment in our municipality,” stated Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister of Women Resource Development & Horticulture.
According to Kruse, the passing of the Nagaland Municipal Bill 2023 served as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the government, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in promoting women’s involvement in decision-making and securing their representation in local governance.

“The consensus decision reached in the State Assembly today is a reaffirmation of our belief in equal rights and opportunities for all, fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking society. As we look forward, we owe this triumph to the tireless endeavors and advocacy of various women organisations, activists, and particularly the support of our male counterparts who have vigorously championed for gender equality and increased representation in governance,” posted Kruse on X.
Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor Industries & Commerce Govt of Nagaland, in a post on X expressed optimism over the newly passed Bill. “Women WILL soar higher. We will see women at par, women led development, women in decision making & women excel. What a blessing that during our time women’s reservation under Nagaland Municipal Bill 2023 is passed unanimously & with consensus. Thank you HCM @Neiphiu_Rio.” Stated Jakhalu.
