After minutes of tense situation of pushing and shouting at Khanapara junction in Guwahati between Congress workers and Assam Police, Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra continued on the route that had been approved by the Government of Assam. In an address at the junction, Gandhi told the huge gathering that they have thrown away the barricades but they will not break the law.
The Khanapara junction, where one of the roads leads to Guwahati city, was on Tuesday heavily barricaded with several security personnel stationed to prevent the yatra from entering the city. The Congress workers and allies removed the barricades but then the leaders announced that the yatra will not go through the heart of the city stating that it did not want to cause law and order situation. In his address, Gandhi said that one should not think that Congress is weak and lauded the party workers calling them “Babbar sher” (lions).
The people of Assam are being suppressed every day, Gandhi also said, citing how his interaction with students at a university was cancelled today due to alleged pressure from higher authorities. After the program was cancelled, a number of students came to the highway to greet him. From atop the bus, Gandhi told the youth that the BJP government want the youth to blindly and obediently follow them. “They are trying to turn you into a slave,” he stated.
After proceeding to Hajo, some 30 kms from Guwahati, Rahul Gandhi addressed a media conference where he said that the idea behind ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ is justice, which has five pillars – Youth Justice, Participation, Women’s Justice, Farmer Justice and Justice for workers.
He also alleged that Assam is being run from Delhi and not by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. “If he says one thing that Delhi doesn’t like, we know what will happen to him”, the Congress leader added.
Further, Rahul Gandhi also remarked that whatever the Assam Chief Minister is doing against Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is benefiting the Yatra.
Meanwhile, Sarma has accused Rahul Gandhi of provoking the crowd and have “instructed” the DGP of Assam to register a case. Sarma also said on X that these “naxalite tactics” were not part of “peaceful” Assamese culture.
“Evidence is emerging as to how Rahul Gandhi and Jitendra Singh instigated the mob to kill Assam Police personnel,” he alleged.
