Week-long steel fabrication training begins in Wokha village

The Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland, on March 30 launched a week-long steel fabrication training programme under the “PACES – Providing Access to Core Employability Skills” initiative at the Community Hall, Wokha Village.

The programme aims to equip local youth with practical, income-generating skills to promote self-employment and small-scale enterprise. A total of 25 trainees from Humtso, Elumyo and Wokha Village have been selected for the first batch. The training will span seven days, covering 50 hours of hands-on instruction.

Head GB, Wokha Village, Mhonkhao Murry delivered the welcome address, while representatives from Zynorique Initiative Society (ZIS), the training partner, presented the keynote address, highlighting the growing demand for fabrication skills in construction and local manufacturing sectors.

Speaking at the event, SDO (Civil), Wokha, Echungbemo Eru highlighted on the importance of skill-based livelihoods in the current employment landscape. He stated that initiatives like PACES create good opportunities at the grassroots level, enabling youth to pursue sustainable and self-reliant careers.

District Employment Officer, Wokha, Ekonthung Ezung encouraged trainees to actively engage in the programme, noting that steel fabrication remains a viable and promising trade amid ongoing infrastructure development.

The inaugural programme was chaired by President, Wokha Village Students’ Union, N. Chipenthung Kikon. The session began with an invocation by Associate Pastor, Wokha Village Baptist Church, Chibenthung Humtsoe.
