The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) has expressed its strongest condemnation and outrage over the abduction of Kiyeto Zhimomi, Head GB of Vikuto village. According to a press release issued on January 21, the WNYF stated that Zhimomi was reportedly abducted from Mishikito area under Chümoukedima on January 19, and later released after physical assault and forced agreement.
“This is not the first such incident, and if our law-enforcing agencies and responsible authorities continue to remain indifferent, incompetent, or unwilling to act decisively, it may not be the last,” stated the WNYF, claiming that it has repeatedly demanded preventive measures and strict accountability against the anti-social elements operating in our society.
However, the organisation pointed out that the continued silence and inaction of the ceasefire monitoring board, government administration, and law enforcement agencies in preventing these incidents is a serious failure of duty.
“If this climate of lawlessness is allowed to continue unabated, the consequences will be deeply detrimental to peace, public confidence, and social stability. The patience of the people must not be taken for granted. History stands witness that when citizens are pushed to the edge by injustice and fear, frustration often gives rise to upheaval and revolutions,” added the WNYF.

It further posited that a “radical shift in approach marked by firm political will, strict enforcement of the law, and uncompromising accountability from all quarters” is urgently needed to decisively confront and dismantle these anti-social forces before the situation spirals beyond control.
The WNYF appealed to all civil society organizations, youth bodies, village councils, and responsible stakeholders to stand united against the culture of abduction, illegal taxation, and extortion that continues to suffocate peace and development in our region. It also demanded the immediate arrest of all the culprits involved and swift justice through proper prosecution of the criminals.
