Who will replace a father and a husband? : WAYO public rally demands justice for Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou

The Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) held a public rally today in Kohima demanding justice for the murder of Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou, a public leader and PA to Deputy Commissioner, Kohima by two youth, namely Neizosetuo Kire and Khrietsonyü Whuorie of Kohima village.

Miasalhou died from his injuries following an altercation with the two accused on May 18 evening at Phool Bari, Kohima over traffic issue.

“Today we are not here to condemn the accused village, clan, or khel. We are here only to condemn the murder. We condemn this wrongdoing, so that no such incident happen in our Angami family again. We are conducting a peaceful rally to ensure there is no other ontoward incident,” said Kepelhoutuo Chüsi, President, Western Angami Public Organisation during the rally, “In any civilised society, whenever there is disagreement among two people, there is a need for a third party to solve the issue. But today if we are to raise our hands and fists whenever there is a disagreement, we question where is this culture coming from. Today if something this terrible happens to our community where is the unity and solidarity that we keep emphasizing about?”

Chüsi reminded the gathering of the pain and grieve of depriving a family. “Who will replace the place of the husband, and the father whose life has been taken away? Have we not crippled a family? You cannot replace him, I cannot replace him. It is very painful to imagine that we have deprived a family,” stated Chüsi.

The public rally commenced at 10 am at Paramedical junction where the gathering proceed to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima to submit a memorandum. The memorandum was read by Khrielievi Chüsi, General Secretary,Mezomia Mechü Kehou.

The demands highlighted in the memorandum included :

  1. That the law enforcing agency to immediately arrest the two culprits.
  2. That the two culprits should be booked under all relevant sections of the law and be given exemplary punishment.
  3. That no bail should be given to them under any circumstances.

WAYO also warned that if any person or group tries to bail the two accused out, they will be held responsible for any untoward consequences.

During the rally solidarity speeches were delivered by Neidilhoutuo Neibu Sechü,General Secretary, Angami Youth Organisation, Neitolie Khrietuo Peseyie, President, Western Angami Youth Organisation,Kepelhoutuo Chüsi, President, Western Angami Public Organisation, Metekhrielie Mejura, President, Southern Angami Youth Organisation, Seyieneilhou Keyho President, Chakhroma Youth Organisation, Kevizelie Pienyü, Vice President, Northern Angami Youth Organisation, Kesosul Christopher Ltu, President, Angami Youth Organisation. The speakers expressed their solidarity to WAYO and the family of the victim. They also emphasized that there is no intention of blaming a community, clan or village but the only demand is to punish the accused.

Miasalhou is survived by his wife and seven children, four sons and three daughters. It has also been informed that he was going to retire next month.
