Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during next 5 days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said on today in its latest press release.
IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati has also predicted widespread rain till 22nd May 2024 and has issued warnings of thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind for all days except 22nd May 2024.
According to RMC Guwahati’s press release, the cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and neighbourhood persists and is now seen between 1.5 km and 2.1 km above mean sea level. Additionally, a trough runs from northwest Uttar Pradesh to north Bangladesh across Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
IMD had earlier on Friday issued Orange Alert for the states of Assam and Meghalaya for 19th and 20th May 2024.
Under these influences, the following weather conditions are expected-
18 May: Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
Warning: 1) Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind speed 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. 2) Thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh. 3) Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya & Tripura.
19 May: Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
