The President of NSCN- K (YA), Yung Aung, has affirmed that the group will leave no stone unturned to find those responsible of the murder of late Haiwang Konyak, Central Council Member (CCM), on 13th June 2024 at Tizit Village, Mon district.

“The NSCN/GPRN, in the strongest terms, condemned this inhumane murder of our unarmed member and will leave no stone unturned in finding the culprits of this barbaric act”, Yung Aung said in a statement issued today.

Honouring late Haiwang Konyak, the President said that the deceased had a “long and illustrious national career”, during which he “served the nation faithfully to the best of his ability”. Today we salute and honour him for his selfless service to his nation.

Aung also conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Information and Publicity, NSCN-K(YA), condemned the murder as “senseless and brutal” and warned “this particular group” that “we take this seriously and we will not forget”.

“At this most critical juncture when the Nagas are looking forward towards peace and unity, some unscrupulous group(s) currently sheltered by Gol, are trying to upset and ruin the prevailing peaceful atmosphere among Nagas,” it said. The MIP claimed despite the group ceasing fighting within Nagas, some groups were “itching to reopen the ugly past without considering the future consequences”.

“Of late, these group(s) are on the hunting spree against the NSCN/GPRN in their attempt to gain favor from Gol by waylaying, kidnapping and killing our members”, the Yung Aung group alleged. It also cautioned that “This unholy pursuit to hunt down their own brothers in connivance with the Indian agents is delusional and will be counterproductive.”

Meanwhile, an independent source has informed that the Myanmar- based NSCN led by Angmai-Langyei is the “prime suspect” for the murder of late Haiwang Konyak.
