The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) has condemned the brutal and senseless killing of late Mhatung Lotha of Yimpang Village following a mob assault in Burma Camp, Dimapur over a minor altercation stating that this gruesome act reflects a total breakdown of moral conscience and an alarming collapse of law and order in our society.

“No justification can ever validate the torture, humiliation, and eventual death of a man who was reportedly assaulted twice, first during an argument and again while still under medical treatment,” the Front said.

Quoting victim’s wife, the Front said the attack involved multiple individuals, not just three persons currently in police custody.

“While the police have claimed to have arrested three accused persons, it is evident that more people were involved, and the investigation remains incomplete. The statement of the victim’s wife and the supporting call records indicate that a woman claiming to be the elder sister of the prime accused was also actively involved in threatening the victim and his family, coercing them to abandon medical treatment and “settle” the matter under duress,” the WNYF said adding her role constitutes criminal intimidation and abetment and must be treated as such.

The WNYF further said the wife of the prime accused, who was at the root of the entire misunderstanding that led to this tragedy, must also be booked and investigated for her direct and indirect role in provoking and participating in the crime.

It also demanded to investigation into the alleged threatening of the victims who were threatened to be taken to some camp apparently of some underground factions.

While appreciating the initial arrests, the Western Naga Youth Front with its federating bodies stated that partial justice would provoke social unrest.

It also extended solidarity and support with the victim’s families and his friend, Chomben, who is still in hospital and demanded proper justice and security for them.

“Any kind of threat or intimidation to them by any individual or groups would be viewed as a challenge to all the Tribal Youth Organisations under WNYF. Nagas are not savages,” the Front said.
