WNYF extends hand to Naga tribal youth bodies to join its platform

The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) which was formed on 14 October 2024, extended its “open hand” to Naga tribal youth organizations who are yet to join the forum to come forward and be part of this common platform for the betterment, safety, and dignity of the people while also ensuring inclusivity and unity for all.

A joint statement issued by the WNYF executive council (nomination committee) on Saturday highlighted the formation of the forum.

“In any democratic and civil society, every citizen has the constitutional right to freely

associate, organize, and form bodies that work for the welfare and well-being of their people. The concept of unity is the opposite of “mushrooming organisations” as it consolidates the numerous individual organizations under one banner. Recognizing the pressing need to unite and collaborate in safeguarding the safety, security, rights, and welfare of our people and upholding the true spirit of Naga brotherhood, the various Naga tribal youth organizations, along with supporting organizations, collectively came under one umbrella to form the Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) in the erstwhile undivided Dimapur,” the statement said.

It mentioned that each of these organizations are officially endorsed by their respective tribal apex bodies in the erstwhile undivided Dimapur (namely Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland), with one unit awaiting final endorsement. The bodies have come together in consensus to represent their respective communities within the WNYF framework, the statement highlighted.

“While WNYF does not claim any administrative jurisdiction, its area of concern includes

all regions inhabited by its member communities within the erstwhile undivided

Dimapur, which cannot be exclusively represented by any one particular tribe but

represents the diverse Naga society as a whole,” the statement added.

Stating that the official executive council, comprising the presidents of all member organizations presently functioning as the nomination committee tasked with constituting WNYF’s full leadership structure, the committee asserted that it remains open and welcoming to any other Naga tribal youth organizations who are yet to join, ensuring inclusivity and unity for all.

“We firmly believe that unity requires not only words but action, commitment, and

courage. Therefore, while we remain steadfast in our vision and our collective resolve,

we also extend our open hand to our fellow brothers and sisters to come forward and be

part of this common platform for the betterment, safety, and dignity of our people,” it maintained.

The joint statement was issued by the present executive council- presidents of Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur, Dimapur Rengma Youth Organisation, Western Chakhesang Youth Front, Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation, Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation, Diphupar Ao Youth Forum, and Lotha Youth Organisation Dimapur.
