In response to recent reports highlighting the alarming accumulation of plastic waste, floating debris, and logs in the Doyang water reservoir, Wokha Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vineet Kumar has announced that the second phase of the Clean Doyang Mission will be launched soon as weather conditions become conducive for effective and sustained cleanup operations.
The initiative will be undertaken in collaboration with concerned departments and agencies, with the objective of restoring the ecological balance of the reservoir and its surrounding areas. The DC informed that the issue will also be taken up at the state government level to explore long-term and sustainable measures for waste management and environmental protection.

Each year, large volumes of waste – including plastics, floating logs, and other debris – accumulate in the reservoir, posing threats to freshwater quality, local biodiversity, and the structural integrity of the dam. This pollution not only endangers aquatic life but also impacts the livelihoods of communities dependent on the reservoir for fishing, tourism, and agriculture.
Appealing to citizens and residents of Wokha and adjoining areas, the DC urged for support and cooperation during the upcoming cleaning phase. He emphasised the importance of community participation, responsible waste disposal, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the mission’s success.
