Wokha District celebrated the 78th Independence Day at local ground, Wokha Town with Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The day began with the hoisting of the national flag across all government offices, institutions, residences, shops, and business establishments. This was followed by institutional visits to various locations, including Sub-Jail Wokha, Mhondamo Memorial District Hospital, Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, 24th Assam Rifles Hospital, and Panacea Nursing Home, where different organisations such as Team Metamorphosis, the District Chambers of Commerce & Industry, SBI Wokha, the CDPO Wokha, and the Red Cross Wokha extended their services.

Aotula Imchen, Superintendent of Police, Wokha reviewed the parade. A total of 10 contingents participated in the march past which includes the DEF Wokha, 7th NAP Bhandari, Home Guards & Civil Defence, 10th NAP (IR), Ex-Servicemen, NCC Mount Tiyi College, NCC Government Higher Secondary School Wokha, Bharat Scouts & Guides, and Fernbrook School Wokha, which served as the band party. The parade was led by SDPO Wokha, Sangthing Khiam (NPS), with ABI Shingnya Kiamnungan of the 12th NAP (IR) as the parade 2i/c.
The cultural segment of the programme featured a folk song by Wokha Town Eloe Eramo Okho and a folk dance by the Phiro Cultural Troupe. Perennial School Wokha delivered a special presentation titled “Echoes of Independence: Honouring Our Heroes.”
In his Independence Day speech, the Chief Guest highlighted the significance of the day and commended the community for their contributions to the district’s progress. He also handed out District Level Awards to several employees for their outstanding performance and dedication to their duties. The awardees included ABSI Elithung Tungoe (DEF Wokha), Forester M. Myingthungo Yanthan (Wokha Forest Division), LDA Y. Abemo Kikon (SDO© Ralan), UBC Mhathung Kikon (DEF Wokha), Forest Guard Y. Khyopenthung Shitiri (Doyang Plantation Division), and LDA C. Thechano (PWD (R&B)).
The celebrations concluded with the Chief Guest inaugurating stalls set up by various departments and Self Help Groups, showcasing local products and services.
