A joint inspection on the ongoing construction work at NH61 from the stretch of 72.04 km to 83 Km was performed on Saturday. The district administration, PWD (highway) department, TTC Infra company and Wokha Village joint action committee took part in the inspection that was initiated after the joint action committee of Wokha Village Youth Organisation issued a press release questioning the credibility of workmanship.

The committee had highlighted various issues in the NH61 stretch including the stones used in the breast walls, uncovered drains, culverts not meeting the standard, land compensation issues and encroachment on road space.

During the inspection, it was revealed that construction was not carried out according to the detail project report in many parts of the road.

The landowners were seen to have encroached even after receiving the compensation, hence the district administration and the joint action committee demarcated the encroached area and decided to demolish any structure on those areas.

The joint action committee blamed the administration for not keeping a proper check on the encroachment issue, whereas the department stated that some landowners were not fully cooperating.

The department also assured to meet the demands of the public and carry out the work accordingly.

The NH61 project is slated to complete by March 2024, but the department stated that they expect the project to be completed by the end of 2023.
