Wokha District observes closing ceremony of Poshan Maah 2023

Wokha: Advisor Yanthan calls collective action to address malnutrition

Wokha District commemorated the closing ceremony of Poshan Maah 2023 at Lotha Hoho Conference Hall on September 30, with Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor, Agriculture Department as the Guest of Honour.

In his speech, Yanthan highlighted the objective of Poshan Abhiyan which aims to address the widespread issue of malnutrition in the country. The Advisor rued that millions of children still suffer with Malnutrition in the country.

“The statistic of Malnutrition are alarming and it calls for collective responsibility inorder to bring a positive change. I hope this programme will provide not just adequate nourishment but also raise awareness about the importance of balance diet and the role nutrition plays in our overall development,” stated Yanthan.

To achieve this, he urged all the stakeholders to collaborate and share resources, knowledge and experiences.

Further, Yanthan extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Department and all the participants for actively taking part in this program throughout the month.

Delivering a brief speech, the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS highlighted that malnutrition is not very high in Nagaland State as compared to the mainland India. However, the State needs to focus on four major areas on Child Anemia, HIV, Drug Abuse and Hypertension, according to Ranjan, pressing the need for Nagaland to approach these four high prevalence diseases in a holistic manner.

The welcome address was delivered by Shanjothung Ngullie,District Programme Coordinator while the keynote address was presented by James Ezung, District Welfare Officer Wokha. A brief recap of the activities of Poshan Maah was highlighted by Erenbeni Kikon, Supervisor ICDS Wokha project. The vote of thanks was presented by Chichanbeni CDPO, Chukitong.
